SWCS-NCC Meeting Notes
November 2, 2006

Attending meeting: Beth Sauerhaft, Larry Holmes, Ross Braun, and Gayle Norman (called in for part of meeting)

Larry gave the treasurer's report. We have $2,765.05 in checking and $8,195.11 in savings for a total of $10,960.16 as of September 30, 2006. An additional $3,153.60 was deposited in our savings account because the Society of American Foresters (SAF) and SWCS Science Day account was closed.

Beth will work with SAF toward developing another joint activity. SAF indicated interest.

Bill Boyer sent the 2007 election ballots to the membership and Carole Jett will again preside over the election. The ballot does not include a candidate for vice-president and a write-in vote is needed. We discussed potential candidates for vice-president and Beth will contact them. She will contact Don Parrish, Russ Mader, Jon Vrana, Joe Makuch, and Lillian Woods to ask if they are interested.

Beth sent welcome letters to all of the new chapter and SWCS members. Ross will contact Sue Lynes at the SWCS office to develop a plan to recruit corporate members, particularly those organizations and companies that have an individual member in SWCS. The Louis Berger Group (engineering consultants), American Farm Bureau Federation, Capitolink, Defenders of Wildlife, Environmental Defense, and the Wildlife Management Institute were all identified as potential corporate members.

Making a $100 contribution to the Washington Academy of Science for the Junior Academy was discussed and tabled until December when Bill Boyer can provide additional information.

Marc Safley and Michele Gidcumb agreed to co-chair the awards committee. The deadline to submit awards is December 12 and our chapter will submit some nominations, including Otto Doering for the Hugh Hammond Bennett award.

Ross reported that the SWCS Northeast Regional conference will be April 24 & 25, 2007 in Lancaster County, PA. A draft flyer has been developed and Chip Ramsey indicated strong support from our Chapter. Chip and Ross previously discussed renting a vehicle to take a number of NCC members to the conference.

The next meeting is scheduled for December 7 but may be held earlier.
