SWCS-NCC Meeting Notes
December 15, 2006
Present: Beth Sauerhaft, Chip Ramsey, Allison Wiedeman, George Utting, Bill Boyer, and Ross Braun.
Awards - confirmed that all award nominations were sent in. (Otto Doering-Hugh Hammond Bennett award, Beth Sauerhaft-Commendation, and Ross Braun-Fellow award)
Possible Scholarship with AFBF - this was discussed and tabled for a future discussion with AFBF to clarify opportunities and thoughts. Group would like the student to be in a conservation, natural resources, environmental and/or agriculture program. Beth will try to bring AFBF staff to next meeting to discuss this issue. After meeting with the AFBF staff, Ross agreed to put together a proposal for the board to consider.
Washington Academy of Sciences donation - The group discussed the JR Academy of Sciences competition and award program and the opportunity for a $100 donation to be made to support the competition. The board was unanimous in support of making this donation to the Washington Academy of Sciences and specifying that it be used for the junior level competition.
Northeast Regional Conference - the board discussed "donation" of $250 as seed money for the conference this spring. It will be returned to the chapter in addition to a percentage of any profits derived from the conference. The board unanimously decided to contribute $250 as seed money.
Carrier/vehicle to bring folks to NE Regional Meeting - Ramsey
Manure Management Planner (MMP) presentation by Maryland Chapter members Chris Gross and John Davis was recommended.
Ross will send out save the date notice and Beth will distribute at EPA to see if some folks might want to make presentations.Treasurer's report - Larry Holmes submitted the report. Total balance in account is $14,113.76.
Election Results were shared with the group. Chip Ramsey will be the President; Beth Sauerhaft will be the Immediate Past President; Ross Braun will be President-elect; Tom Hebert will be Vice-President; Bill Boyer will be Secretary; Larry Holmes will be Treasurer; Melvin Womack ('07), Allison Wiedeman ('08) and George Utting ('09) will be Council Members - terms to expire at end of year in brackets.
Chip Ramsey will work on the end of year report and have a version ready for the next meeting.
Meeting dates/times for next year - board recommends maintaining the same schedule of the first Thursday of every month from 11:45-12:45 for the meetings. However, this will come up for discussion again at the next meeting if board members have challenges with this.
