SWCS-NCC Meeting Notes
November 8, 2007Participants: George Utting, Ross Braun, Tom Herbert, Bill Boyer
2008 National Elections: National: The Chapter unanimously decided to nominate Bill Boyer for the SWCS National At-large Board of Directors position. Bill accepted. October 19 is the post-mark deadline for the nomination. Ross will work with Bill and submit the nomination form.
2008 Chapter Elections: Suzy Friedman, Environmental Defense, will run for President Elect. Tom Hebert, incumbent, will run for 2008 vice-president. Michele Laur, NRCS National Atmospheric Resource Specialist, will run for council-person (2008-2010) Larry Holmes, incumbent, will run for 2008 treasurer. Bill Boyer, incumbent, will run for 2008 secretary. Boyer and Womack will prepare a ballot and ask Carole Jett to collect ballots and count votes.
2010/2011 National Conference: Washington, DC may be selected for the site of the 2010/2011 national conference. Ross has contacted neighboring chapters (Maryland, Delaware and Virginia) and the Virginia Chapter indicated solid interest in helping. We may contact other chapters in the SWCS Northeast Region.
2008 Awards: Nominations for national awards and the National Capital Chapter's Norman A. Berg Conservation Legacy Award were discussed. It was unanimously decided to nominate Bill Boyer for the Outstanding Service Award and Melvin Womack for the Commendation Award. Ross will put together draft nominations for the officers to review. The Indiana chapter will nominate Otto Dearing for HH Bennett award and NCC will provide a letter of support.
Fall Tour: Wilhelmina and Ross each sent a thank you letter to Wetland Studies & Solutions, Inc. (WSSI).
Smithsonian Soils Display: The Smithsonian needs $10,000 to support the display of each state soil. Ross and George will investigate. Tom suggested we send invitations to Agricultural Trade Associations to participate/contribute. Doug McKalip should have a list of Ag Associations.

The SWCS-NCC Board meets the first Thursday of each month from 11:45-12:45.
The location will cycle among the organizations represented by Board members and be announced prior to each meeting.
